India - Lunch - Garlic Naan

I always knew that I wanted to try and make naan one day, but I never knew it would be this easy! Naan can be made in a variety of ways, but the recipe that I followed gave it a garlic, whole wheat twist. I was so happy with how it turned out. It was the perfect dinner side bread, and I know that it will be a nice breakfast, lunch or afternoon snack. Naan is very versatile. I know that I can eat the leftovers with hummus, cooked veggies, and cheese. In the future, naan would make an amazing pizza crust or sandwich bread (just open up the top and stuff it!). Click "Read More" to follow the steps to make your own naan.

Ingredients:
Naan
2 tsp active dry yeast
1 3/4 cup all purpose flour
1 1/3 cup wheat flour
2 1/2 canola oil
1 cup lukewarm water
1/2 cup lukewarm milk
1/2 Tbs sugar
1 tsp salt
1-2 grated garlic cloves
Topping
4-5 finely minced garlic cloves
Melted salted butter for brushing

Directions:

1. Combine and stir water, sugar and yeast. Let sit until foamy (10 minutes).

2. Mix in milk, flours, garlic, oil and salt. Knead dough until it comes together. If too dry, add more milk and/or oil. If too sticky, add in flour a teaspoon at a time. Dough should be wet but not sticky.

3. Coat the bowl with 1 tsp oil. Cover naan with plastic wrap and cover bowl with kitchen towel. Leave to rise in warm spot until dough doubles in size (1-2 hours).

4. Preheat oven to 500˚F. Punch down dough and transfer to floured cutting board. Cut into 8 equal pieces. Roll out dough into 5-6 inch oval shape.

5. Place on cookie sheet, about four at a time. Bake for 4 minutes, remove, brush with melted butter and garlic cloves, and put back in oven with broiler on for 1 minute or until top is golden brown.
